Case of Friedel-Crafts Alkylation and Acylation Reactions
Continuous Process Schemes
1. Scheme 1 (Dynamic Reactor - Horizontal Type):
• Catalyst feeding in slurry or solid form;
• Multi-stage cooling and absorption of tail gas.
Limitations of Traditional Processes
1. Violent reaction requiring dropwise addition;
2. Complex and uncontrollable side reactions;
3. Corrosive waste gas;
4. Large amount of waste gas entraining materials.
Advantages of Continuous Process
1. Improved product yield and selectivity;
2. Closed system facilitating waste gas treatment;
3. Small on-line reaction volume;
4. High material utilization rate.
Difficulties of Continuous Process
1. Stable feeding and uniform dispersion of solid catalysts;
2. Prevention of reactor blockage and maintenance of continuous operation.
2. Scheme 2 (Dynamic Reactor or Microchannel Reactor):
• Catalyst feeding in complexed liquid form;
• Multi-stage cooling and absorption of tail gas.
