Problems in Scaling-Up of Stirred Tank Process

  • Harsh reaction conditions, requiring fuming sulfuric acid and fuming nitric acid for nitration
  • Raw materials and products are unstable with long residence time in the mixed acid system, making stirred tank scaling-up difficult
  • Conventional reactors have low mass and heat transfer efficiency, resulting in low yield and poor selectivity in batch process
